Hello there! I'm Ameryn.
If you are reading this you are probably wondering what I'm all about and if being here is worth your time, so lets dive in!
This might be the right place for you if you are a mom who is looking to create a healthy home for your family. Who wants to put decent meals on the table everyday without much thought or hours of prep. Who is sometimes a bit overwhelmed with the whole mom life thing, or the household duties, or the lack of time for yourself...ever.
Or maybe you are a homeschooling mom looking for some like minded mamas to connect with (or just be reassured that you aren't completely ruining your kids) Or a mom who wants to live more of a sustainable life in these crazy times.
If you can relate to any of those, I think we are going to get along great.
Simply Ameryn is all about inspiring moms to create a sustainable home life that allows them to enjoy motherhood, even on the tough days. I started my career life as an Interior Designer, then turned Health Coach and homeschooling mom.Take that and add our passion for gardening, sustainability and living minimalish, and you've got, well... this.
How this Interior Designer turned Health Coach
I’ve always been a bit intrigued by what I needed to do and eat to be healthy. In 2007 that mild intrigue turned into full-blown obsession when a health crisis hit our family. Since then it’s been a whirlwind of trying this diet and researching that program and reading book after book and website after website. I quickly realized that I had no idea what healthy actually was! It wasn’t long before I decided to jump all in and study about health in a course from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in 2013, that is when I started my health coaching journey.
I learned so much from my time in school but, I’ve also learned so much in the decade of solo research and working with other health coaches and holistic practitioners. One of the biggest ways I’ve gained knowledge, is by talking with people going through a lot of the same things I went through myself. By talking with people who have IBS, chronic fatigue, allergies, auto immune diseases, skin issues and just plain feel like shit everyday, I’ve come to realize how crappy the ‘normal’ is for everyone. I lived with this for years so I know how it feels. I think so many people have no idea how great they can feel every day, I know I didn’t!
So, that’s part of my mission, to change the everyday lives of the women all around me, so they can live their fullest life and let that amazingness ripple out to all those around them!
I do this through sharing simple changes to make in their everyday routine, simple shifts in their diet, and working on their mindset. It’s amazing how big of a change can come after making a handful of small changes. Looking back on my journey it’s hard to even imagine where I used to be. I did make some big jumps, but most of my changes happened by little tweaks here and there. Adding in a few good foods here and taking out a few bad things there. It all adds up to something amazing.
One of the biggest things I’ve learned along the way is that there is waaaaaay more to being healthy than just eating healthy foods. If you are stressed out and mentally spent there is no way you are going be feeling your best. There is a balance you have to find to unleash your amazingness and it is different for everyone. Here’s the trick, YOU have to find it. No ONE diet is going to be right. No awesome daily schedule is going to solve all your problems. There is not one cookie cutter solution out there that is going to be just right. Why? Because you are YOU! No one knows you like you do, and no one can tell you what’s best. I can give you guidance, share my collected wisdom and point you to resources that may help, but ultimately you have to get in tune with yourself and see what works for YOU! It’s a process and with guidance it can happen much quicker (and with less confusion) than going at it alone.
Now that I am a mother this work seems even more important than ever. Our kids are coming into a world where they’re set up for more disease than ever. This is the first generation where our kids are expected to have a shorter lifespan and more disease than we are. This is ridiculous.
If we can’t make changes now to make the world better for our kids, I don’t even know what we’re doing with our lives. They literally are our future and they are depending on us to do what’s best for them. I have found that by consciously choosing the things that our kids interact with everyday, we can make a big impact on their overall health and well-being. From making sure that they are eating the most nutritious food to removing and replacing toxic products with clean, healthy ones.
As women, we are the heart of our family. Changes we make are going to spread through the whole family and make a huge impact. Even if we are just making changes for ourselves, they will transition to the family by the amazing example we set.
